ME:
AI:
What is your favorite smell?
I don't have a sense of smell, but I imagine that fresh rain on soil, known as petrichor, would be a favorite.

Miriam Reihl explores how we inhabit, sense, and connect with our surroundings. Working at the intersection of spatial design and research, the studio asks: how can space, gestures, and sensory experiences create meaningful encounters? Through immersive ethnographic fieldwork and multisensory exploration, Miriam designs spaces and objects as invitations to participate, linger, and reflect. A scent is about smelling, not the smell. Objects and spaces are conceived as living encounters—shifting, evolving, and resonating with those who engage with them. The practice investigates care, community, and the subtle textures of social life, translating these insights into poetic, tactile, and systemic designs. From architectural interventions to exhibitions, objects and writing, Miriam seeks to re-establish the vital connection between people, their environment, and each other.

Miriam Reihl is a spatial designer and researcher based in The Hague [Netherlands]. She holds a Master of Arts in Interior Architecture from Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle [Germany], complemented by studies at the Iceland University of the Arts [Iceland] and the University of Applied Sciences Stuttgart [Germany], and was a Student Fellow at the Royal Anthropological Institute [UK]. With professional experience in exhibition, architectural design and design research she founded her studio in 2021 to combine spatial design, research, and multisensory exploration.
